The e-newsletter of the Detroit Area Library Network
February 2015
Request for Information Please!
The DALNET Consortium issued a Request for Information (RFI)
for Library System Platforms on January 13, 2015. Responses
are
expected by February 9, 2015. As part of the RFI process
WSU/DALNET
held a meeting with interested vendors and received and answered
questions from vendors through January 26. RFI responses from
vendors
will include answers to DALNET questions about system functionality and
cost estimates. The DALNET Executive Committee will take a
preliminary
look at the responses as part of their preparation for their next
meeting on February 23. It is anticipated that responses to
the RFI will help the consortium narrow the list of vendors that will
be invited to do product demonstrations or later
participate in an official Request for Proposals.

MobileCirc
and New Equipment
DALNET has purchased MobileCirc from
SirsiDynix for inventory and
mobile circulation. The current release of MobileCirc will
perform inventory functions and a later release will offer standard
circulation features. It will be a welcome update to our
current
Percon inventory software and will also enable staff to circulate items
out in the library, instead of being tied to the circulation desk.
The
DALNET office has purchased new equipment for members to use
with
MobileCirc,
including four Socket Mobile Bluetooth scanners, two iPad Airs, and two
Google Nexus tablets. The four tablets are enclosed in sturdy
cases and will go out as part of the DALNET mobile inventory kits.
DALNET staff participated in training from SirsiDynix in
January and
will be creating instructions for the use of
this new equipment with MobileCirc.
New Horizon
Web Services Installed
Web Services enable behind-the-scenes functionality for Internet and
server based systems accessible on the Web. Our current Web
Services enables functionality for authentication in the HIP catalog
and use of
the BookMyne mobile app. The latest upgrade of Web Services
recently
installed by DALNET will enable the new MobileCirc software and other
new Horizon enhancements such as the browser based BLUEcloud
Cataloging. The DALNET office is currently working to install
and test
the new cataloging software functionality for potential use by members
later this year.
